MIS Management

(USA Publications/Nicole Fernan L. Caminian)
The University has implemented the manual mode of payment of transactions in the Accounts Section just like in the past because of the unexpected breakdown of the management information system (MIS) and its server last June. In addition, assessment of fees, balances, and other account inquiries were not available. Payers would again have to write on three receipts and payments due for the prelim examinations were almost fixed at all courses and year levels. Aside from the Accounts Section, the college offices were not able to provide the professors the final class lists. Late enrollees were not issued their registration forms and were only given tentative schedules and sections of their classes. Furthermore, the student services offered in the official website of the University were not functioning.

Epsilon Alpha Chi Organization (EACO) positions of the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) was vied by two parties after 11 years of single appointments during the annual election at Blanco Hall, July 1.

“During our time we have three opposing parties running for a position in the EACO that made it more interesting because of a very good competition.  But for past eleven years, only one party have guts to run for a position in EACO and sometimes we forced them just to have officers of the organization.  Students just concentrate on their academics. I am very glad for the old TEKNO spirit has been revived through this election.”EACO adviser Engr. Nino G. Blones said in an interview.

University MIS breaks down

 By ANDRE KARL S. FACULIN

A student pays portion of the tuition fee due for the prelim
examination manually by filling up three receipts instead of
the usual payment slip, July 21. The administration used the
manual mode of payment since June after the unexpected
breakdown of the Management Information System (MIS).
(USA Publications/Kristine Louise L. Andrade)
Stimulating long queues, inaccessible information and manual transactions, the Management Information System (MIS) of the University suffered from a major database server malfunction.

Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) Rev. Fr. Pederito Aparece, OSA, disclosed that the technical problem was initially reported on July 21, 2011.

“We noticed the malfunction due to colleges inquiring about some difficulties in the database server,” Aparece, also the MIS director, said in an interview.

and buckle feature. (USA Publications/Kristine Louise L. Andrade)

TSAI
By JESANNY I. YAP

The Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) issued its roll of successful examinees for the June 2011 Architecture Licensure Examination last June 16, 2011 with College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) 2009 graduate, John Christian U. Tsai obtaining a rate of 84.8 percent, as ninth placer nationwide.

Tsai referred to his two-year apprenticeship in construction site areas in Iloilo as his key advantage since it required him actual application of his skills and less in the paper.

“The board exam is pure situational analysis which demands for your ability at decision- making in between situations. Hence, you need to be confident with everything you’ve learned and apply it,” he said.

A Little Thing Called Art

 by JERSON ELMIDO
and FEBRIELYN TUMINES

Some people live on strings, they’re called musicians. Some other impress through graceful hopping, they’re called ballerinas. Few people express through ink blots on skin called tattoo, and we call them drug pushers, ex-convicts and worst, forsaken- children-of-God.

It’s long been known, social stigma on tattooed persons existed, ridiculed in the 21st century as dirty bastards. That whenever we pass by them, we thought of saying”Oh come on, get some decent life man!” Ex-convicts, criminals, black sheeps, drug addicts, warfreaks, drunken masters are some of the awful nouns branded to this group of people.

Just Sweet Dreams

by FEBRIELYN S. TUMINES and MIA ROSE V. EMBOLTURA

(Cartoon by Jerson Elmido)
She turned off the light, hoping that the night will offer her a promise of sweet dreams. Tomorrow will be Saturday and Mailie will be helping her Nanay prepare the chicharon, salted peanuts she’s going to sell. She closed her eyes, and suddenly she was halfway asleep when a soft brush of hands crawled in her thigh. She was caught in between dreams and reality, but she saw a man’s figure leaning towards her to steal a kiss…

The next scenes became a nightmare that she wished it truly was. She tried to resist his grasp but he was strong enough for her to fight back. A beam of the moonlight struck the face of the silhouette; she saw her stepfather’s face with a grin and malice. Then she became the piece of wood pierced by a hammered nail.

The Flight: Ronald Tubid's Journey

Tubid
by GENESSA A. BUENAFE

The Fast, The Furious, the Fearless and the Saint

They called him so many names but it all sums up to one man. The basketball court is the battlefield he played with a keen eye and a set of skills. Anointed with the number ‘71’ in the back of his jersey shirt and a slamming ‘Barangay Ginebra Kings’ at the front, he plays the game with the zest for victory. Amidst failures and trails, he showed good character and a true sense of sportsmanship proving that beneath the name, the game and the fame, there is a true man beneath it: Ronald Gonzaga Tubid.
