THE UNIVERSITY of San Agustin basketball courts located outside the gymnasium is undergoing a 10 million renovation in part of the implementation of the university’s strategic plan for 2004-2013, under its goal to provide quality infrastructure and support facilities to students.

Fr. Generous P. Gonesto, OSA, Vice-President for Academic Affairs said that this is to put into effect the USA Physical master plan that was comprehensively been discussed for the betterment of the university.

The renovation started last August 9, 2011.

“The two basketball courts will be turned into a multi-purpose covered court that will include a stage that will surely benefit not only the school but the entire Augustinian institution,” Gonesto said in an interview.

According to him, the university recognizes the need to provide a fulfilling learning environment to students and sees the need to establish major infrastructural facilities not only to support learning, but also to induce demand.

“Students will no longer have a difficult time during their respective P.E classes especially when there is rain and will be a help not only to sports but to various programs and departmental activities or any events that involve a few as well,” he adds.

He also mentioned that it took 2-3 days just to put a “temporary” stage inside the gymnasium and thus it will be time-efficient with the presence of the new covered court.

The allocation of the budget was from the miscellaneous fees which the university collects and was approved by the USA budget office based on the priorities of the institution.

Construction crews are gearing up to reach completion before the University week celebration on February 2012.
